Hey guys – I made is safely to Minnesota and am sure glad to be on the road again. Other than a couple of road trips to Nashville and Atlanta and a few runs up to Oklahoma, I haven’t been anywhere since I got back from Europe in March.
The changes in airport security didn’t present any challenges – didn’t take any longer to get through security. I was traveling with some liquid medicine and two inch and half long syringes (a treatment I’m doing for my skin). Was a little worried about that, but I put it all in a plastic bag with all the necessary documentation from pharmacy and a letter from doc – told everyone I encountered at security what I had – they looked at it BRIEFLY and waved me on through.
The airport vendors have got to be loving this. You can’t take anything to drink thru security or on the plane, but you can buy something once you get past security and drink it while you are waiting to board. And with the airlines telling people to arrive three hours earlier (which is TOTALLY unnecessary, by the way), people will have no choice but to buy it.
The MSP airport is old and dated, but fairly easy to get around. One nice thing is that you don’t have to take a shuttle to the rental cars – just a couple of elevators and a tram to another building where the cars are underground.
I had directions to the hotel, but still managed to get lost – partly because I was reading the map backwards and the CAR DOES NOT HAVE A COMPASS!!! I do not understand why rental car companies don’t realize how important compasses are. Also, the hotel’s direction sheet left off a major exit. But, I finally made it. Now, I am not actually in the metropolitan area – I am in a suburb so my first impression of the area is probably worthless. HOWEVER, if I absolutely had to pick another city to compare it to, I would have to say PITTSburgh. And y’all may remember from a few years ago how I felt about THAT place!!! But, I am looking forward to exploring the area this weekend. I’m going to do my usual in a new city and start with a Grayline tour to get the lay of the land. And, I’m going to a TWINS game. After I read my tour guides then I will decide on what else to do. (Mom, HOUSE ON THE ROCKS is in Wisconsin – about 250 miles from here – but I may still do it some weekend).
On this project I will be working with two partners – both from Tulsa. The parent company of the client is located there as well as the management consulting firm I have partnered with. I met the project manager on Friday – he’s very nice – I believe we will get along just fine. The other person (also named Cheryl) will not be here until Tuesday.
Well, guess that’s about it for tonight. Long day tomorrow so I think I’ll get to bed soon.
Oh – and it was only about 70 degrees when I landed and raining. What a treat!!!!!
I’ve already told some of you this – but the drought in Dallas is so bad that my lawn is beginning to look like Kenny Rogers’ face!!!
