Belgium March 2006 - Saturday night dinner

I forgot to tell y'all about dinner Saturday night. It was in a beautiful old castle right on the lake close to my hotel. They had gotten a really good write up in Frommers for their variety of seafood and fish dishes. And it's true - there were a number of different seafood dishes - salmon, shrimp, tuna, etc.......but they were all RAW!!!!!! I finally just told the waiter to tell me which meats were cooked. There were two - veal and sweetbreads. Well, I feel almost as strongly about sweetbreads as I do raw fish, so I opted for the veal. ANd it was very, very good. And they had wine in the half bottles which was great for me, thought it wasn't as good as some others I've had here.

The dessert, though, was great!! It was "pineapple three ways". One was called "iced tea something" (don't remember what the something was), but it also had pepper in it and tasted real strange (and I've still got a blister on my tongue). The pineapple ice cream was very good as was the chutney....in fact I'd like to find a recipe for that - had cashews in it.

Today was the strangest snow day I have seen here - it's amazaing how one minute the sun can be shining and the next you can't see two feet in front of you because of the snow!!!! It just comes on so suddenly - and the flakes are HUGE - and the way they fall is weird - they sometime just look so out of place - cause it's just dry snow - no other kind of precipitation. It's like folks in heaven are having pillow fights!!!!!

It did that off and on all day today....I walked out for lunch and had to carry my umbrella and my sunglasses. And the temp went from 34 to 43 in less than 30 minutes and then back to the low 30s an hour later.
