I went out exploring Hapeville at lunch today. It is not an attractive town - in fact it is downright ugly. But, it is not completely uninteresting. It has acertain charm - kind of like the Cabbage Patch Dolls -so ugly they are cute. The streets are kind of strange....for instance, there is a North Central Ave and a South Central Ave and the assumption would bethat it's one street running north and south with a dividing street. But, actually it is TWO 2-lanes streets running east and west on either side of the railroad tracks. And there are a LOT of tracks and trains in this town!!! It doesn't really have the feel of a railroad town, though, such as Omaha.
Dad,Jamie, I haven't seen a UP train - in fact haven't seen any that I recognize...Nothern something - can't remember. A lot of them are probably private as this is a very industrial area. The main tracks run east/west through the entire town and beyond. The main streets have well-placed signals and crossings, but there are a lot of sidings and spurs - those kind of scare me.
Yesterday I went to lunch with a couple of team members....we were running parallel with a train and one of the guys said it would turn and cross in front of us, but if I floored it, I could beat it. I gave him my best dirty look and said I don't play games with trains. For one reason, if the train didn't kill me, my brother would. I told him he needed to spend five mintues with my bro hearing about all the train/car wrecks he has investigated and he'd never try to beat one again.
There is a big farmers market here and they have a restaurant so that's where we went to lunch. (These folks LIVE in this area and work 2 miles from it and have NEVER been there - I had to tell them about it)Pretty neat place - the market - I'm going back over there this weekend and pick up a few things.
Today I explored downtown and found a pleasant littleFrench cafe and had a sandwich on the verandah. A great day to dine al frescoe (sp???). I noticed that the cafe is next to a B&B and I just called the owner and made an appointment to look at it tomorrow. Imight move there - I don't like this hotel. If you want to check it out, the website ishttp://www.maisonlavigne.com/. Looks neat and the owner sounds like a neat person. She's actually in France right now picking out wines or something for the cafe so I'm really meeting with her assistant. I've never stayed in a B&B before so this might be a good experience.
Hapeville is also home to a HUGE Ford Assembly plant and Delta Airlines Corp office. The first Chick Fil A is here - drove by it, but probably won't eat there -never really cared much for it.
There is at least one museum - a depot museum which Iwill visit some day at lunch.
This Friday there is a bluegrass concert downtown I'll check out after work - Jamie, it's Wolfman Washington & the Roadmasters and the Cedar Hill Blue Grass Band -ever heard of them?
To learn more about Hapevile - http://www.hapeville.org/
Well, still got a couple of hours work to do - so I'll sign off now and get to it.
Sleep tight - don't let the bedbugs bite.
