Belgium February 2006 - Give me EL FENIX, BUBBAS, EVEN CHILIS OR MCDONALDS

You know, guys, the food here is wonderful. (Have Imentioned the chocolat before?) The restaurant at thehotel is 5 star and all the ones close by that arewithin walking distance are very hoity toity. BUT,you can only take so much of "veal kidneys flambeed incognac", "duck breast fillet in a crushed cinnamonbiscuit coating" and "roast pigeion withrosemary".(not that I have eaten any of that, but youget the idea). Tonight I actually did have a reallygood filet mignon at the Irish Pub, but of course, itcame "presented" with all the little fancy garnishesand sauces strung over the plate. I didn't knowwhether to dig in with my fork or break out in anoperatic aria!!!I did try that "salmon cooked on one side only" at thehotel the other night. They assured me it was cookedall the way thru...and it pretty much was....the sideit was cooked on was crispy and really good. Therewere some raw spots....not so many to make me gag oranything....I just ate around them.BUT, I NEED TEX MEX, OR FRIED CHICKEN, OR A BIG OLEJUICY "DRIP ON YOUR CHIN" CHEESEBURGER!!!! Surprisingly enough, they are really big on frenchfries here. Yes, you CAN get fries with that - nomatter what you order. You can even get ketchup, BUT,you risk a long sigh and roll of the eyes from asnooty waiter if you ask for it. Grace, hope you're not in any hurry to get home whenyou pick me up Sunday - I REALLY want to go to Bubbasfor dinner. (For those of you not familiar withDallas - Bubba's is the best fried chicken in theworld). I haven't had any nearly as good since beforemy grandmother died in 1967.Well, gotta run. It's 8:40 p.m. here and nearly noonin Vancouver and I have a conference call. No restfor the weary.
